I tried to think of a better title like maybe something like 'thrown a curveball' or 'punched in the guts' but 'Cancelled' sums it up nice and simply. My IVF #2 is over...
Yesterday I went in for my 8 day scan (my ER was supposed to be on the 3rd). My follicles weren't big enough and I also have an endometrioma (large chocolate cyst on my right ovary). My left ovary was also not visible as it is being pulled up high in my abdomen (this also happened last cycle). The Doctor says I most likely have endometriosis. Surprise!! Now I know why i've been having so much pain - so it is nice to at least have some answers...
I am scheduled for surgery on the 17th Feb - for a Laproscopy, Hysteroscopy, Curette and removal of Endometriosis. I have never had this type of surgery before so feeling a little nervous. I know that alot of you have had this surgery before... so any advice would be appreciated :)
I will be able to start another IVF cycle pretty soon after that...
I have suspected for awhile that things weren't quite right down there...so i am sorta glad that the Doctor is going in to have a look and clear things out. Because of our severe MF issues I was never really examined much by the Doctor. Now that he has a better picture of things I know it improve our chances for our next cycle....
When I left the Clinic yesterday I felt so disappointed but also optimistic at the same time - I have to remind myself that things are still moving forward. Every step brings us closer to a baby!! The waiting part really sucks though and i'm sure i'll probably shed a few more tears over the next week as it all sinks in...
When I came home, I opened the fridge and spotted a beer. I don't really drink alcohol much (and not for the last few months), but a friend left it at our house on the weekend. Anyway I cracked it open and it tasted great!!! Today I also treated myself to an iced coffee! yum! Now that the cycle is over I can also take some stronger pain meds for my poor aching abdomen and back.... yay!
I have now stopped all my shots - not sure when to expect AF?
The surgery countdown begins - 18 sleeps to go!

Sorry to hear about the cancellation, but it's good that they discovered the endo and can remove it to prepare for the next cycle.
I had a hysteroscopy a few months ago. I was worried about it, but it wasn't that big a deal for me (though mine was just exploratory, so yours will probably be more involved). Best wishes!
Hi Anita,
I am so sorry to hear that your cycle was cancelled. It is so frustrating.
I had a laparoscopy a few months ago. The Doctor found some endo and removed it. It was a bit painful afterwards but I was fine with strong painkillers. It was worth it because now they know what the problem is.
I am thinking of you. I hope that you enjoyed your beer? You deserve it.
Oh, Anita, I was so sad for you when I saw the title of the post!! I am so sorry! It does sound like you have a great perspective about it (although it is more than ok to shed some more tears) in terms of the drs. making you really ready for pregnancy to be possible. Glad you enjoyed the beer :)

Anita,
So sorry sweetie. But, I do think that this is a blessing in disguise. It's frustrating today...but it is only bringing you closer to your baby.
Feb 17th will come in no time and you will be on your way to a perfect IVF cycle. Enjoy the beer:)

Anita,
Like Hillary, my heart sank for you when I saw your post title. I know how gut-wrenching a cancellation can be. We put so much energy into a cycle - both physically and emotionally - that having it come to end so abruptly can be devastating. I agree with previous commenters, though, that the one upside is you're now one step closer to finding answers and possible solutions that can help make your dreams of a child come true. Good luck with the surgery.
What a bummer. You are keeping such a positive perspective, though! It's inspiring.
I had a laproscopy in October. I was very nervous as it was my first surgical procedure ever! I don't remember any of it (duh), but when I woke up I discovered that the RE had found endo (which I had no symptoms of) and removed much of it. After doing some research, I learned that this means a major increase in the likelihood of a successful cycle! So, perhaps this is just what you need.
I know patience sucks, but just hold onto it. Surgery day will be here before you know it, and then it's off to your SUCCESSFUL IVF cycle!
I'll be praying for you.
I'm sorry to hear about the cancellation, but glad to hear that you seem to be looking forward and in positive spirits.
Praying that everything goes well and you get to your next cycle quickly. :)
I am so sorry to hear about the cancellation. It is probably for the best though. It sounds like you were in a lot of pain. Get yourself better and than like you said it should be smooth sailing. :0)I hope that the surgery goes smoothly and I will definitely be reading along. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
So sorry to hear about the cancellation!
I hope that you are feeling better soon, especially after your surgery.
Yes the "waiting part really sucks", but it will be sooo worth it in the end! Don't lose hope!
Hi, I'm new to your blog. What a crappy set-back But you are right. You are still getting closer to having a baby. A cold beer makes everything better.
I've had that procedure. It wasn't bad at all. You'll do great.
I'm sorry this IVF didn't work out, but your chances of conceiving will be greatly increased once you have had the laprascopy.
:-)
Sorry to hear about the cancellation but you are right, you are still moving forward and that is a good thing. One of the things that suck the most about this whole IF thing is the waiting.
I have never had a laprascopy done but I am going to talk to my RE about it because a previous RE had mentioned it. Anyway I hope all goes well with the surgery. I will be checking in with you. ((HUGS))
booo! I'm sorry about the cancellation. I understand your nervousness about the surgery, but everyone's right...it's good news. The doctor will be able to go in and fix whatever it was that was likely impeding conception and pregnancy. I have only had a hysteroscopy and that one is the lease invasive...so there is not much pain associated with that type of surgery afterwards. Also, they put you to sleep (the light kind of anesthesia) so you dont really remember it anyway. May you be blessed and your surgery go smoothly and perfectly. 18 more sleeps for you and only 14 more for me and my big appointment (to recheck for hyperplasia and get the green light to FINALLY start TTC). The countdown is on!!!
So sorry to hear about the cancellation, but I am glad you know what the next steps are and I am *sure* now that you know you are also dealing with endo they will be able to make your next cycle the best it can be. Good luck on the lap- I had one years ago (not for endo)- and was surprised at the achy shoulders afterwards... good luck to you! I hope it goes smoothly and you'll be back on track in no time.

So sorry about the cancelled cycle but hopefully the various cleaning out parts of the upcoming surgery will lead to a much easier positive with your next cycle. good luck and hugs to you.
I'm sorry to read that your cycle was cancelled - how frustrating. The good thing is the surgery should clear up the endo and that will help future cycles a lot! I have't had endo myself (surprisingly!) but a close friend does. Glad they discovered it now, cause its usually fixable! I have had 3 curettes and they are not as bad as they sound.
All the best, mate!
Hey Anita, so sorry it was cancelled this time. I agree with you at least you have some answers now and can move forward! Thinking of you and wishing a big success for your surgery and next ivf cycle. xoxoxoxoxo
Sorry if I'm a bit late responding. Sorry to hear that you've had a cycle cancelled - it's the pits.
I've had endo (including endometrioma) removed by laproscopy a couple of times. The worst thing about the operation is the trapped wind feeling afterwards. But they will get rid of the endo and you'll chances will be improved for your next treatment attempt.
So sorry about your cancelled cycle. My RE discovered stage 4 endo in Dec. when I went for a lap to remove 2 endometriomas.
I had a hysteroscopy done simultaneously - it's the best way to go, really. You'll be cycling more successfully after the lap. If you have any questions about the surgery, email me at ginnegaap (at) yahoo.com
It took about 3-5 days to feel better post-lap. At first, I couldn't sit up without help, so cooking/cleaning/grocery shopping beforehand ensures you can just rest and relax afterwards.
I didn't have any pain from the gas, but my pelvic area was pretty sore.
Because of the catheter (removed before anesthesia wears off), you may have a hard time urinating afterwards. Don't worry about it - it rectifies itself. Your throat may also feel scratchy because of the intubation (done while you're under anesthesia).
When you're coming to after anesthesia, don't be brave. Rate your pain accurately and get adequate pain meds. They gave me morphine because they did extensive work. It really helped getting me out of the PACU and into recovery.
You'll be fine - just shout if there's anything worrying you, and I'd be happy to answer.
